About Dryden Woodoil Clear (A&B) Part A

Dryden WoodOil is a water-repellent, non-filming, timber protector. It’s a true migrating oil, that migrates deep into the timber. Dryden WoodOil’s water repelling properties prevent the absorption of water deep into the timber, helping to reduce excessive warping, cupping, and splitting of timber, thus extending the life span of those timbers.Dryden WoodOil is made in New Zealand and specially designed for our conditions. It is suitable to be applied to timber cladding, shingle roofs, fencing, well-seasoned decking and outdoor furniture and many other exterior situations, along with specific interior finishing. Dryden WoodOil can be applied to most species of timber, old, new, rough or smooth.Dryden Colourtone+ are available in a range of colours to help maintain and complement timber character without hiding the grain while adding UV protection if added to Dryden WoodOil Clear. If applied in clear for natural finishing, Dryden WoodOil allows timbers to silver and weather but maintain water repellency. For hard-wearing (unseasoned timber) surfaces such as decking and outdoor furniture, Dryden recommends Dryden OilStain .

Surface preparation
Previously painted surface

Previously coated timber
Before coating, strip back any stain or polyurethane coatings to bare timber and carry out a strong wash on the timber in accordance with our care and maintenance instructions in Section 16 and ensuring any degraded loose product is removed. Never sand or scrape timber to remove stains, as that will result in patchy sanding or scraping marks on the timber surface that will show through after coating.

Unpainted surfaces

New timber

  • Dressed timber: Sand to remove mill glaze. Sand linearly along the timber grain using up to 180 grit paper (for exterior timber) or 240 grit paper (for interior timber). Sand the full length of the timber. Do not sand in small areas. Sand lightly. Do not over sand. Sand to ensure timber is free from raised or woolly grain, planning burrs or other machining defects. After sanding, ensure all sanding dust is removed before coating.
  • Bandsawn timber: Brush along the direction of the grain to remove dust, loose timber fibres and debris. After brushing, turn timber over and knock several times to ensure loose fibres fall off before coating.
