All preparation and painting must conform to AS 2311: The Painting of Buildings. Do not apply at temperatures below 10C or when the temperature may fall below 10C during the drying period. In hot and windy conditions, paint on the shady side of the building, or cool the surface by hosing and paint the cool damp surface. Rain, frost or dew during the drying period will damage the film. Check the suitability of DULUX Roof & Trim over previously painted surfaces by cleaning the surface, painting a small section then leaving to dry for two days. Cut an 'X' through the coating with a sharp blade. Press cellulose tape firmly across the cut and then rip the tape off. If DULUX Roof & Trim is removed from the previous paint, the surface is not suitable for painting. Where a roof is for the collection of water, it is necessary to disconnect the tank inlets and thoroughly hose down the surface to ensure that active surfactants are washed away. Once complete, reconnect the tank inlets. Do not collect drinking water within 48 hours after painting to allow coating to fully dry.
PREVIOUSLY PAINTED GALVANISED STEEL
Occasionally an apparently sound old paint will lose adhesion when recoated, particularly if the new paint is darker in colour. To avoid this, check the adhesion of the old paint by cutting an 'X' through a clean area of the film with a sharp knife, press cellulose tape firmly across the cut and rip it off. If the old paint comes off with the tape it should be removed before repainting. Remove dust, grease, and any loose or flaking paint by scrubbing with a solution of Dulux House Wash using a stiff bristle brush (not a wire brush). Rinse with water and allow to dry. Apply 1 coat of Dulux PRECISION All Metal Primer to any bare surfaces. Remove any red rust with a wire brush and spot prime with Dulux PRECISION All Metal Primer.
UNPAINTED GALVANISED IRON, ROOFING, DOWNPIPES & GUTTERING (ZINCALUME)
Wash with a solution of Dulux House Wash using a stiff bristle brush (not a wire brush). Rinse with water and allow to dry. Remove any red rust with a wire brush and spot prime with Dulux PRECISION All Metal Primer. Galvanised iron must not be left to ‘ weather’ , particularly in salt or chemical areas. For best results, especially in coastal or geothermal areas, the application of 1 coat of Dulux PRECISION All Metal Primer is recommended.
CONCRETE TILES
Glazed concrete tiles cannot be coated with a decorative paint system. Remove all dirt, chalk, lichen and moss using a high pressure water blaster. Wash with a bleach solution where necessary. Ensure that cement used in jointing is in a sound condition.
TIMBER FASCIAS INCLUDING PRE-PRIMED TIMBER
Test previously painted surfaces. Sand all dressed timber. All grey timber must be removed by sanding prior to painting. Remove dust before painting. Apply 1 coat of Dulux 1 Step Water Based.
BRICK, MASONRY, FIBRO & FIBRE CEMENT BOARD
Unpainted masonry surfaces should be cured for 28 days before painting. Ensure surface is sound and clear of any loose sand or cement. Fill holes with a grouting cement. Wash down with water using a stiff brush to remove all loose material. To remove any efflorescence (white salts) wipe down with a 5% solution of acetic acid (white vinegar). Hose down and allow to dry. Wash with a bleach solution and/or demossing chemical to remove mould, or moss. The hose down. Apply 1 coat of Dulux Prepcoat Acrylic Primer Undercoat
STEEL/WROUGHT IRON
Remove all rust by scraping, sanding or wire brushing. Apply 2 coats of Dulux All Metal Primer
PLASTIC SPOUTING & DOWNPIPES
Sand all surfaces and dust off.
Brush, roller, conventional or airless spray
Brush/Roller: Rinse brush or roller in water before starting and use while still slightly damp. Apply two full even coats direct from the container. Use a short nap roller. Avoid excessive brushing or rolling back into paint which has been drying some minutes. Stir contents thoroughly before and during use with a broad flat stirrer, using an upward lifting action. Under hot or windy conditions or on very absorbent surfaces, up to 100ml DULUX Hot Weather Thinner may be added per litre to assist application.
Airless/Conventional Spray: Suitable for application by all standard spray equipment. If necessary thin with up to 100 ml/litre of water to aid atomisation.
